Working at YoungMinds

About YoungMinds

Before 2020, an estimated five children in every classroom had a mental health problem. A quarter of young women had a diagnosable mental health problem and suicide was the single biggest killer of boys and young men.

The coronavirus pandemic and the response needed to control it have made matters worse. 52% of 16-20-year-olds have self-harmed in the last year. Many young people with an existing mental health problem have said their needs have escalated, and have experienced new barriers to accessing support.

YoungMinds is here to stop young people’s mental health reaching these crisis points. Our mission is to make sure that all young people get the support they need, when they need it, no matter what. Find out more about what we do.

About us

Our vision

  • A world where no young person feels alone with their mental health.

We want to see a world where every young person who is struggling feels able to reach out, and has people and services around them who can really help.

The Halo Code

As part of our organisation's ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, YoungMinds is a proud adoptee of the UK's first Black hair code.

  • Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance.

  • We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps.

  • In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
